A carefully planned boiler room avoids problems
The boiler room or plant room can usually be found in the basement in a block of flats. It is best to install central heating boilers with sufficient space around them to make maintenance and repairs easier. Ventilation is also essential for combustion, discharging flue gases and supplying fresh air. If there is an insufficient supply of fresh air, a boiler may malfunction.
Types of boiler rooms
- Shared high-capacity systems: shared facilities for heating and hot water using a large boiler in the boiler room that serves all flats.
This can be a cascade system or a free-standing unit. - Individual domestic systems: individual supply of heating and hot water for each flat using separate, private boilers in the same boiler room.
